Vin Mangione’s 1st Contest Reflection

Vin Mangione

“After playing hockey from the age of 4 until 19 (decided to quit due to concussion problems) I needed a new sport and an outlet from the world. Inspired by a member of my family I choose the Bodybuilding route.

In the beginning I was guided by my brother in law and he set me on the right path. For the first year I made significant progress, but I neglected my diet for a majority of that time. As my first year came to an end, I decided I needed to put more effort into my diet. I sat down countless amounts of time trying to put together the “perfect” diet but it never worked for me.

Then one day I was browsing Facebook and Hunt Fitness caught my eye. I sent him an email and from that point on my diet has always been on track. I worked hard for another 4 months and made great progress.

I was having a conversation with my brother in law one day and he brought it to my attention that I should do a Natural Bodybuilding Show. At first I was hesitant to make a commitment, and even told myself I would wait until 2012 to compete. However, I talked to Kyle about it and we both decided that I should do a competition in 2011.

We both decided to take 16.5 weeks to diet for this competition that was held this past October in Buffalo, NY (my hometown). I began dieting at 202 lbs. and woke up the day of the show weighing 170 lbs. in the best shape I’ve ever been in during my 20 years of existence. I could not have done this without the help from Kyle and the support from my friends and family.

I placed 4th in the show, but the experience I gained from it was remarkable. Being able to step on stage was a win in my book and a day I will never forget. I learned a great amount about myself, and those who surround me. I made mistakes but I will correct them for the next stage appearance.

Again I thank Kyle, my friends, family, and girlfriend for all the support during my contest prep.”
