Allegra Mayer Interview
Editors Note: I came across Allegra on Twitter and was very impressed with what she is doing at 15 years old. With all of the women adult competitors in bikini, figure, fitness, etc, I always find it strange that you don’t see many women teen competitors at local shows. Last year’s Olympia bikini champ, Nicole Nagrani, was only 19 or 20 years old, so there is definitely a spot for young girls in the sport. Another point I want to make is most young females are overly obsessive about their weight and pant size. I feel getting involved in the “fitness lifestyle” could be a very healthy outlet for girls to focus on body composition and overall health rather than unhealthy measures.
This is a different kind of article here at Hunt Fitness. I hope everyone enjoys it!

Q-1: What got you into the fitness lifestyle?
For me, getting into the fitness lifestyle wasn’t too tough. I had always been pretty athletic, and I played soccer since I was old enough to play. Most of all I’ve been a big runner, running after school, after homework, or whenever I could fit it in.
Last year I became close friends with a bodybuilder and I went to support him at the NANBF July classic 2011. I watched the women’s open for Bikini and Figure and started thinking “I can do that! I’m built like those girls, I’m not afraid to put in work!” A few weeks later I got a gym membership, that’s where it all started. Now this time I will be COMPETING in the figure teens class and figure beginner class at the 2012 July NANBF Classic in St. Louis, Missouri.
Q-2: How do you balance living a “Healthy” lifestyle and hanging out with friends since you are so young?
I am constantly learning how to balance my life correctly although there is no PERFECT way to do it. However, being a freshman in high school–having a ton of homework, chores at home, family time, friends, and a boyfriend.. It gets tough at times. But the people in my life who matter are the ones who know about my training, dieting, etc and understand. It sucks sometimes having to say “no, sorry I can’t I have to go to the gym.” or “hey sorry, I have to get home and make my next meal.” But it is all worth it to me and if they don’t understand, I can’t make them understand! I smile and do what I have to do! My parents tell me if my homework is not done, no gym, if my grades don’t get up; training sessions are cancelled. So I can’t afford to mess up! Usually during the week I play things by ear, get home, do chores, homework, and gym and if I have time I hang with my boyfriend. If not, he understands since he’s a bodybuilder and has similar things going on in his life. Friends are for the weekend. Overall I take my life day by day except for my workouts and meals, those are ALWAYS scheduled!
Q-3: what does your training program look like?
Right now my training consists of 5 days of HIT (high intensity training) cardio, 2 arm & shoulder days, a back day and a leg day per week.

Q-4: Do you follow a specific nutrition plan and if so what does it involve?
As of the past week, I was on a specific nutrition plan (food change) but just this week I started an improved food change. It involves a lot of whole foods and lean meats on certain days and meats with more fatty acids on other days. March 1st was 16 weeks out from my July show, so I started a show diet then.
Q-5: what are your future aspirations in and outside of fitness?
After I participate in the July show, I’m not too sure where I will go from there. Maybe I will do another show the same year, or maybe I will wait a while. Maybe I won’t do another show (that probably won’t happen). I’m taking my life day by day and making the best of it. I’m young and I’m not sure what I want in the future, but I am positive that I will always call myself a Figure athlete. After high school I would like to go to college for business, or physical therapy, and also do personal training because I’d like to open up a physical therapy office as well as my own gym.

Q-6: What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I…. well if I have any! I like to SLEEP. Just kidding but I do like my rest, but spare time is usually spent with friends and family either shopping, or hanging out. I could care less about a party on a Friday or Saturday night, I would rather ask my parents to take me to the gym instead of a party! Honestly!
Q-7: Is there anyone that you’d like to shout out?
I would like to shout out my MOM, for always supporting me, my close friends (they know who they are) for pushing me to keep with my diet even at school when I want cookies…lol, yes I want cookies I’m still a youngen! And most of All Dan Hoorman, the owner of my gym Rhino Fitness none of my training sessions With Debbie Portell, and my nutritionist, sponsorship with Complete Nutrition, NONE of that would be possible without them. THANK YOU, I WON’T disappoint!
