In this episode, Derek and I discuss why progress is not always linear and why it’s okay.
Have you ever heard the story of Milo? I’m sure you have, but if not, Milo of Croton, a famous ancient Greek wrestler, began lifting a newborn calf daily. Milo’s strength increased proportionally as the calf grew into a full-sized bull. This story loosely demonstrates the principle of progressive overload.
Here is the thing. Strength doesn’t increase proportionally. Along the way, the bull’s growth would have outpaced Milo’s strength gains, meaning there would be days he could and days he couldn’t lift the bull.
Let’s think back to our lifting. There are days when we can’t lift the hypothetical bull, either. But, unlike Milo, we have other ways to make progress.
Sit back, relax, and Enjoy!
